Continuing with the updated reference sheets for my staff! This time: Floréan, Rebecca´s husband, and Abel´s papa. :3

Those of you who follow my stable staff a bit more closely know that Floréan has a secret, and I decided to elaborate more on this here. Therefor I am putting a warning for mentions of sexual and child abuse in here, for those who feel triggered by reading that kind of stuff.

Sexual abuse happens to boys and men just as much as it happens to girls and women; it´s just as horrible, and just as wrong, and society needs to wake up and erase the stigma of "boys/men cannot be raped".

Job at the stable: He is one of the main dressage riders, with a main focus on Baroque Dressage, and Haute Ecole. He had been riding as a child but had to stop when her mother, widowed, remarried. When Rebecca opened the stables he started out as a groom to get back into the groove, and got himself trained as dressage rider. He jumps too, but he likes dressage more; it´s more where his talent lies. He teaches the very little ones at the stables too, as he´s brilliant with kids. He also helps his wife with everything she needs help with - from doing the laundry to cleaning the horses, to selling lavender honey in their little shop.

Personality: Floréan is a very soft-spoken and gentle man, with a warm and caring heart, but a whole lot of insecurities. He often believes he´s not good enough at what he´s doing. He is rather the shy guy. He doesn't talk much when there are a lot of people around him. However he can have pretty long conversations with people he trusts. Sometimes he needs to be left alone and often seems very thoughtful. Then again, from time to time, he can have some funny moments and knows how to make people laugh. He avoids fights as arguing makes him feel uncomfortable. With Rebecca, he has found his safe haven in a stormy sea, and although he was convinced he would never be a good father, he couldn´t be more enamored with his son.

Backstory: Floréan was already that calm and soft-spoken boy when he was a child. The girls loved being around him, which didn´t bother him too much, but often prompted the boys to point their finger at him, calling him a "girl", and giving him nicknames like "Goldilocks", Being as shy as he was, he never stood up for himself, ad only grew even more quiet. Marguerite, his mother, had organised riding lessons for him, hoping that the contact with horses would help him to open up a bit, and it looked like the boy was developing a slight talent for dressage, a path he would have loved to explore more in his future. When Floréan was ten years old however, his father had a heart attack and passed away, leaving the boy and his mother in shock. The ponies he was riding on were his only solace. His mother found a new partner and remarried when her son had just turned thirteen. His stepfather did not approve of Floréan´s passion for horses, and cancelled all of his riding lessons, forbidding him to go back to the stables. His mother soon noticed that her son withdrew even more as the months passed; he started to have major problems at school because he had stopped talking, and soon enough he even stopped talking altogether at home. He also often refused to touch his meals, and he would often go and hide in the attic between old boxes with his books. Marguerite did everything she could thnk of to find out what was wrong with her child, seemingly unsuccessfully - until one night, she came home very late from working as a nurse, and went to Floréan to see if he was asleep - only to find her husband in her son´s bed, molesting her only child. Horrified, she somehow managed to get to her son, put him in her car, and drive to her mother. From there, she instantly called the police, and filed for a divorce as soon as she possibly could. The whole investigation and trial times were a torture for Floréan, and it was clear that he would need to get professional help. By the time he was fifteen, he was talking to his mother again, but only to her. With the support of her parents, Marguerite quit her job to become a stay-at-home mother, and Floréan was homeschooled. He did get his baccalaureate (meaning he graduated high school) at eighteen, and Marguerite was unsure whether or not he should go and visit a university, but by this time he was willing to take the plunge and move out to go and study - mainly to prove himself that he was capable of doing so. So he enrolled for history in prospects of maybe becoming a teacher one day, and he soon found that the distance between his mother and him, although he loved her deeply, helped him to get more indepenent and outgoing. He made a few select friends, and even found a young woman he fell in love with. They stayed a couple for a few years, until he decided to ask her hand in marriage, and she refused, telling him she´d prefer a "real man over a whiny fragile boy" like him. She left his belongings in front of their flat for him to find a new place to stay, and he later found out that she had apparently been looking for an excuse to dump him since quite some time. Since he didn´t know where else to stay, he moved back to his mother, and never finished his studies. His uncle was willing to give him work in his carpenter´s shop in the countryside, so he moved away once again, and learned the carpenter´s trade for a while. When he heard about someone taking over the old stables and re-opening it, he went there to ask if he possibly could get riding lessons in exchange for work, but Rebecca, in dire need of more staff, asked him if he wanted to stay and work as a groom. He accepted, starting with half-time first so he could go on helping his uncle, and later full-time. He found back into his riding routine, and was even able to get trained as a proper dressage rider. Becky and he became close friends, especially after he found out about her losing her brother by accident and her mother blaming her for it. He soon developed a romantic interest in her, but didn´t think he´d stand a chance, her being his boss, and him not wanting to risk their friendship. It was around Christmas that they confessed their feelings to each other, and it was around Christmas three years later that they got married. There were times on which he could not believe how lucky it was, and at one point it seemed that this dream had ended - the stable caught fire, they lost some of the horses, and Rebecca had to be hospitalised. He found out that she had been pregnant and lost the child nbefore she had even got around to tell him. He tried his best to be strong for her, though there were nights during her stay in hospital in which he was so overwhelmed that he cried himself to sleep. When she finally came back they were able to pick up each other, and with the help of friends and locals (and the insurnces not making too much of a fuss), they found a new home and managed to reopen the stables in a new place, but not too far from the old one. Becky fell pregnant again on the very end of the following autumn, and gave birth to a beautiful healthy son. Floréan is much more stable now; in fact he´s doing very well. He still has trouble speaking about his past and what his stepfather did to him, and he feels especially bad for not being able to openly talk about it to his wife, but he is ever so thankful for her support, and the fact that she respects his silence.

I really like Florean. I think his backstory adds him depth, although for his sake he could do without. So - he hasn't told Rebecca at all? Or does she know the general gist of it still? Also, he's very handsome
